Anti-Trust and Competition Law
- Judge denies Musk’s request to stop OpenAI from becoming a for-profit organization
On 19 March 2025, a federal judge in San Francisco denied Elon Musk’s request to stop OpenAI from transforming into a full for-profit. This came upon the heels of a suit filed in November 2024 seeking the court to block OpenAI which started as non-profit from transforming into a purely for-profit.

- US District Court affirms that only a human work of authorship is copyrightable
On 18 March 2025, the United States Court of Appeals for the district of Coulmbia Circuit in the case of Stephen Thaler v. Shira Perlmutter, in her official capacity as Register Of Copyrights and Director of the United States copyright office and US copyright office (No. 1:22-Cv-01564) affirmed the denial of Dr. Thaler’s copyright application on the grounds that the creativity Machine cannot be the recognized author fo a copyrighted work because the Copyright Act of 1976 requires all eligible work to be authored in the first instance by a human being.
