Tom Utum

Tom holds a Bachelors of Law degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife. His research areas include AI and financial technology, Data Protection, Intellectual Property and Tech Policy. He is a Digital Assets at The International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) Rome and was a 2024 fellow at the Center for AI and Digital Policy, Washington DC. He worked with Templars, Banwo & Ighodalo, AELEX, among others as an intern, where he polished his legal skills on corporate and technology transactions. He emerged as one of the winners at the global Internet Law and Policy Foundry Hackathon 2022. In 2023, he became the first National President of the Nigerian Intellectual Property Club (NIPC) and in 2024, was nominated a Rising Star in Data Protection by PrivCon Nigeria.
